Bed pushed against a wall on one side
In a small bedroom it’s tempting to push the bed into the corner. Feng shui traditionally prefers a bed you can get into from both sides.
A double bed with one side against the wall is traditionally said to “close” the door on partnership, and it’s awkward for whoever sleeps on the wall side. Pull it out to leave at least 45 cm (18 in) on both sides if you can. For a single bed in a small room it matters much less.
Both plans are scored live by the same rules engine we use on your own room. “Harmony” is a 0–100 layout score.
Why both sides matter
Balanced access, with a nightstand and lamp on each side, is a feng shui symbol of equal partnership, and it’s simply more comfortable for two people. For single people hoping to meet someone, many consultants suggest the same arrangement to “make room” for a partner. Treat that as tradition, not a promise.
Making it work in a small room
- Even 45 cm (18 in) of access on the wall side counts.
- Choose narrower nightstands or wall-mounted shelves.
- Consider rotating the bed to the other wall. Our layout check can test the options for you.
